Actuarial at Unum
In Actuarial, we make sure that, as Unum continues to grow, the business is profitable, with products at the right price. We also ensure that Unum stays solvent and has enough funds to cover potential future insurance claims and other risks. This means we're vital in balancing financial health with the risks linked to growth.
As a graduate or trainee actuary, you'll be involved in a wide range of activities as part of our rotational Actuarial Development Programme (ADP). With year-long rotations into different areas, the programme gives you experience of a wide variety of actuarial activities. This gives you the chance to develop your actuarial skills and knowledge, such as analysing data, evaluating financial risks, and explaining complex details clearly to non-specialists.
You'll be doing real work at the heart of our business, gaining a range of experience and able to see the impact your work has. At the same time, we'll support you with time off for study and payments for study materials and exams, so you can expect to be fully qualified within four to six years.
To join us, as well as being academically smart, you'll need to be an excellent communicator, with a professional, positive and enthusiastic approach. Your co-operative and supportive attitude means you'll be a great team player, who appreciates how your actions affect other team members, the team's goals and the wider business.

Meet some of the team
Andrew. Senior Actuarial Trainee
I joined two and a half years into my actuarial career. Unum is a market leader in their field, so I know the training I’m receiving is second to none. It’s large enough a company that there are plenty of opportunities for me to work in a variety of roles and take on responsibility as I progress. On the other hand, it’s not so large that I feel like a cog in a machine; I get to work with people at all levels across the business and see the impact my work has in the wider context.
Unum’s also a very pleasant place to work day-to-day. The people here are genuinely friendly, helpful and respectful to each other, which is so important. Last and certainly not least, Unum offers a competitive benefits package including some great perks.
Where our teams are based
Not all our roles are available in each one of our Unum offices. Here are where you can find the Actuarial roles that you're interested in.
